Collision de similaritons optiques dans un amplificateur optique fibré Raman

National audience; Nous abordons les aspects théoriques et expérimentaux de la génération et propagation de deux similaritons optiques de fréquences centrales différentes dans un amplificateur optique fibré Raman à dispersion normale. Nous observons les effets intervenant durant la collision des deux similaritons: un battement sinusoïdal apparaît dans la zone de recouvrement temporel des impulsions et des effets de la modulation de phase croisée modifient le spectre des similaritons. Les similaritons retrouvent néanmoins, après collision, leurs caractéristiques paraboliques.

Tellurites fibers for infrared supercontinuum sources : opto-geometric profiles and extrinsic absorptions management

This PhD thesis work focuses on the synthesis and purification of vitreous materials used for the development of waveguides with varied profiles, dedicated to supercontinuum (SC) generation between 1 and 5 μm.Concerning the purification of tellurite glasses, several leads were followed, but best results are obtained for the purification of the TeO2-ZnO-Na2O glassy system by the means of zinc fluoride. Attenuation measurements performed on several meter-long single-index fiber samples reveal the nearly complete elimination of water-related absorptions between 3 and 4 μm (OH ions concentration lower than 1 ppm mass.). Wave dynamics and turbulence in multimode optical systems

The subject of this thesis essentially focuses on the experimental and theoretical study of optical turbulence in different types of nonlinear media. The first part of the manuscript is devoted to the study of thermalization and condensation of optical waves during their propagation in graded-index multimode fibers. The analysis based on the wave turbulence theory reveals that the disorder inherent to light propagation in an optical fiber induces a significant acceleration of the process of optical thermalization, which can clarify the mechanism of certain regimes of spatial beam cleaning recently reported in the literature. Self-polarization of light in optical fibers

The second performs the first experimental demonstration of the polarization domain walls which cancel the effects which degrade the intensity and spectral profile of a telecom signal during propagation. This phenomenon comes from non-linear coupling between the two orthogonal polarization modes of light propagating in a Kerr medium in normal dispersion regime, and causes a modulation in phase opposition of the two modes along the fiber. It is possible to lock two optical pulse trains complementary intensity so that the pulses do not suffer the effects of distortion occurring in the fiber in order to maintain the information to be transmitted. Etude des sources supercontinuum à fibres transparentes dans le moyen infrarouge

The work reported in this thesis deals with the study of the supercontinuum generation in fibers transparent in the mid-infrared. To generate a supercontinuum between 3 and 5 µm we compare different glass families such as fluoride glasses, tellurite glasses and chalcogenide glasses. These fibers are pumped with fiber lasers emitting at 2 µm with nanosecond or picosecond pulse duration. This wavelength allows us to reach the zero dispersion wavelength of the chalcogenide tapered fibers. We report supercontinuum generation up to 3800 nm in a fluoride glass fiber. Actually, this feature of light remains so far an uncontrolled variable, which can degrade the performances of all-optical systems.
